Develop your English speaking, reading and writing skills, while enjoying a rich cultural experience Canada!

CIABT offers ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. Its Curriculum is licensed from Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology - which is an approved Ontario Ministry of Education institution.

At CIABT great emphasis is placed on finding the right placement level for each individual. On the first day of registration each student is given an English test (TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language) designed to measure the student's English language ability. The test result will determine the student's preliminary placement. We assist learners with a Low-Beginner to Advanced English language fluency level. The Program includes six levels and classes are Monday to Friday for five hours per day. Upon arrival, learners are assessed and placed in the appropriate level.

Programs Features

  • A Computer Writing Lab with full Internet and email access
  • Organized cultural and recreational activities in the community
  • Full-time International Student Advisor support

Course Assessment

Progress into each of the six levels is based upon assignments, mid-term and final tests, attendance, lab work and participation.

Course Content

This Program is based upon the Cambridge New Interchange and Passages book series, the most widely used, comprehensive ESL book series in the world. As well, our experienced instructors have a vast library of creative language activities to meet the needs of learners from different cultural and language backgrounds. Our goal is to develop your language skills with a focus on Grammar, Speaking, Listening, Vocabulary development, Writing, Conversation, Pronunciation This Program prepares you for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program and post-secondary studies. Experienced teachers and small class sizes offer students individual attention.

ESL Summer Experience

CIABT also offers the opportunity for specialized 3 to 6-week summer ESL programs. Lessons take place in the morning and in the afternoon, teachers accompany the class to related activities. Overnight camping, hiking, sailing and touring are some of the excursions that the students can participate in. The best way to learn a language is to use it while meeting new people and having fun! Social activities provide opportunities to enhance language skills and make new friends.
